It's the Pepsi Center location that's odd, not the media pass pick-up locations. Here's the deal in writing, I've made to maps (links below so you can visualize it in case viewing maps is easier than reading words).
1. Since the media credentials have to be picked up daily by 1pm, it's unlikely you will be going directly from the credentials pickup location to the Pepsi Center. You would miss all the other events going on downtown. But, if you are, don't forget your media passes will allow you on the Delegate buses from the hotels to the Pepsi Center. That includes the Sheraton (for 1st day). For remaining days, the Warwick Hotel at 17th/Grant is right near the 18th/Sherman pickup Utah is staying at the Warwick.
2. The first day's credentials get picked up at the Sheraton at 16th & Court. That's right on the 16th St. mall route where there are free shuttles going to the rest of downtown and the Pepsi Center.
3. From or heading East, the dividing Street for downtown is Broadway. The streets run at a different angle past Broadway. Coming from the East, Court Place is the first street into downtown. The Sheraton is right there. Leaving downtown, going East, the streets go :Broadway, Lincoln, Sherman, Grant, Logan, in that order. So Sherman is only 2 blocks East of Broadway.
4. East of Broadway, on the north-south grid, the streets go in numerical order, 16th, 17th 18th 19th , 20th etc. So 16th & Court is only a few blocks from 18th & Sherman, where you pick up your tickets on the remaining days. It' s just on the other side of Broadway. From the Sheraton, you would go two blocks east (Broadway, Lincoln, Sherman) then two blocks north (16th, 17th, 18th.).
The best thing about Denver is you can never get lost because the mountains are always West. (I am hopelessly directionally challenged in every other city -- here, you just look up, where you see mountains, that's west.)
Also, there are a lot of good restaurants on 17th Ave east of Broadway and they should be easier to get into. For daytime, the Avenue Grill, Steubens, Hamburger Mary's are a few. The restaurant in the Warwick is okay too. That section is called "Uptown". Think, Uptown (for East of Broadway), Downtown (once you cross Broadway) and LoDo (for further into Downtown.)

Here's the one for Broadway, Court Place/Sherman, etc. The Sherman St location is marked with an "A."

PS one last thing. If I remember Boston correctly, it was always faster to get into the Fleet Center when I took the Delegate's bus from hotels because the delegate buses have their own security entrance. I think that may be true in Denver as well. Even so, the security lines were the worst part of the experience.
