OH-Sen 6: Does Husted Even Live In His District?

A few days ago the Plain Dealer raised the issue of Jon Husted’s residency in the 6th senate district that he hopes to represent. Specifically, it appears he isn’t a resident. His house in the district is filled with cobwebs and 6 weeks worth of newspapers sit by the front door.

Family life could also cause Husted some consternation this year. While Husted clearly spends most of his time living in a $343,000 three-bedroom home in the Columbus suburb of Upper Arlington with his growing family, he is supposed to live in his legislative district.

While he won't say how much time he spends in Kettering, his modest ranch-style house had tightly-drawn blinds and a six-week-old stack of newspapers next to the front door on a recent summer day. Cobwebs were beginning to creep over a front picture window.

Hell, even Naugle jumped on him over this.

I’m actually glad the issue is being raised, as residency issues have always bugged me and it’s clear Husted is actually a resident of Upper Arlington.

NRA Doing Anti-Obama Calls In Ohio

In response to my post on push polls the other day, I got an email about some calls people have recieved from the NRA claiming Obama will take their guns away.

Anyone surprised? Ya, I wasn't either. It's the same old crap they pull every election. In fact, a few days ago in Jefferson County Obama took a moment to warn people this day was coming and to assure people that he believed in the 2nd amendment. I just happen to have an audio clip of that statement, so here it is in his words:

[UPDATED]: Paul Hackett is a hack, and it's time we acknowledge that

Nobody likes a good narrative better than me, but at somepoint the truth has to trump the legend (look out, Gov. Palin).

Paul Hackett is a darling of the DailyKos crowd and many Ohio progressive bloggers , even though politically, he's much more conservative that they are.  The sole reason for this is because of his performance in the low turnout special election in which he almost defeated Jean Schmidt to fill the remainder of Rob Portman's term.

The very next year, after flirting with running for the Senate instead of a rematch, Hackett dropped out of politics almost entirely.  The Democratic nominee, Dr. Victoria Wulsin, actually outperformed Hackett and came even closer to defeating Schmidt as an incumbent in a regular election than Hackett did in an open seat race during a low turnout special election.

Beyond that, he said that Sherrod Brown was too liberal to defeat Mike DeWine.  And was proven wrong.  He then endorsed Rosemary Palmer over the consensus challenger candidate to Dennis Kucinich.  Palmer performed worse than just about any other challenger.

Then Hackett decided this Spring that he had to denigrate Wulsin's chances this cycle.  As a result, I said on this blog that I was officially done with Hackett.

Stivers Gets Hit With Parody Site

Career lobbyist Steve Stivers is being hit with the truth in a new ODP parody site called "Lobbyist for Congress". The site is almost an exact copy of the Stivers campaign site except, as the name suggests, it highlights his past work as a banking lobbyist.

I do have one complaint about the site though, the ODP decided to use lobbyistforcongress.com rather than a more Stivers-esque  lobbyist4congress.com. I still maintain that using numbers in place of words should instantly disqualify someone from public service at the congressional level. It is worth pointing out, however, that lobbyist4congress.com does redirect to the site.

Think Stivers' is the lamest Republican candidate in the ORP circus? Vote for him in our poll (but not on election day)!

New Quinnipiac Poll Has McCain Slipping In Ohio

There's a new Quinnipiac poll out today that has some good news for Barack Obama: he's leading John McCain by 5 points.

Specifically, the poll has them at:

Barack Obama: 49%
John McCain: 44%

The poll also still has Obama up in Pennsylvania (48%-45%) but trailing in Florida (50%-43%).

Hey, two out of three isn't bad. In fact, getting two of these three has been enough to get the job done since 1960.

Quinnipiac: Obama Lead Trimmed in PA, Gains in OH, McCain Expands Lead in FL

The latest Quinnipiac University polling in the "Big Three" swing states of Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Florida released after the conventions shows that the Obama-Biden ticket leads by 3 points in Pennsylvania (48-45), a narrowing of Obama's 7 point lead on his own in the last pre-conventions poll, and 5 points in Ohio (49-44) compared to 1 point in the last pre-convention poll. However, the McCain-Palin ticket has expanded its lead in Florida from 4 points to 7 (50-43).

Amongst white women, the poll shows a 4 points shift towards McCain in Ohio and a 5 point shift in Pennsylvania.

The key difference in the states is support amongst White voters. In Florida, McCain-Palin leads amongst white voters by 24 points, whereas in Ohio and Pennsylvania they only enjoy 6-7 point leads, while the Obama-Biden ticket garners the strong support of Black and Hispanic voters in all three states.

President Bush's approval rating in the three states is 33 percent in Florida, 30 percent in Ohio, and 26 percent in Pennsylvania.

The full poll results can be found here.

Crites Isn't Out Of Touch Or Anything...

Mike Crites is a man that knows what the people want. He knows they don’t care about the real issues. Insead they’re worried about…

Wait for it…

Press Releases!

Seriously, you can’t make this shit up. Republican AG candidate put out a press release earlier today criticizing Rich Cordray for the amount of press releases he sends out.

Come on, that’s the best you can do? In fact, I think it’s time for a poll…

Here Come The Push Polls

Marc Ambinder has gotten an email from a Columbus, Ohio reader that claims to have been given an anti-Obama push poll.

The reader claims he was read the following items and asked how they changed his opinion about Obama:

  • Spiritual advisor said American brought the 2001 attacks on itself
  • voted against requiring schools to install monitoring software for
    pornography
  • Obama's spiritual advisor stated that US created HIV to kill people of color
has voted to restrict 2nd amendment rights
  • voted against toughening policies against gang members
  • only legislator that refused to support legislation that would force adult
stores to not be near schools or churches
  • voted for sex education for kindergartners
    born alive education

Once again, we here at BSB would love to hear about any dubious campaign activity you happen to come across. If you think you’re being push polled, please jot down as much information about the poll as possible and send it to david [at] buckeyestateblog [dot] com.
