Commending Wisconsin Citizens in 2008

Uppity Wisconsin's picture

Wisconsin is home to a multitude of outstanding citizens who have fought for the very fabric of our democratic government against a radicalized Republican Party that has become home to a faction of corrupt, militaristic reactionaries. Here are a few who have fought for freedom and the rule of law:

Russ Feingold – Feingold’s dedicated work for the preservation of the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights have won him the respect of citizens the world over.

Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin – In the face of the war on women’s reproductive rights, Planned Parenthood has stood fast in their service to women, and won a landmark legislative achievement for women protecting their right to health care.

Attorney Lester Pines and every organization who successfully fought our corrupt Attorney General in the Van Hollen v. WI GAB Voter Suppression Case.

Navy veteran Keith Roberts — An innocent victim of the U.S. Dept of Justice and U.S. Dept of Veterans Affairs (VA), Roberts continues his court battles that have made it greatly more difficult for the VA to actually jail our veterans for receiving benefits to which they are entitled.

All I know is what I read in the papers...

Pot calls the kettle partisan. The left is unhappy with Barack Obama appointing too many Republicans, like Defense Secretary Robert Gates. But Jessica McBride, who's never met a Republican she didn't like (except JB Van Hollen), disagrees.  McBride's unique take on the resignation of US Attorney Steve Biskupic:

It’s standard procedure for U.S. attorneys to resign when there’s a new incoming president from the opposite party. The president picks his own team. But President-elect Barack Obama should have done whatever he could to keep Biskupic around anyway. Send the signal: We won’t ask you to leave when January rolls around.

Not doing so is a purely political maneuver from a supposedly bipartisan president.

Barack Obama, whose transition team has 350,000 resumes piled up, should have singled out Steve Biskupic and asked him to stay on?

Failing to do so is "a purely politican maneuver"?

Wisconsin '08 Election Notes

Uppity Wisconsin's picture

Political writers who in February ridiculed the notion that Obama, flush with a 17-point primary victory here, could in November win substantial blocks of voters among the 'white working class' (WWC), appeal to white voters in Republican strongholds such as Waukesha County, and who crowed that their reading of the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) federal election law was spot-on correct, are in a word: Wrong.

Typical among today's brand of Republican commentators, such admissions have not been forthcoming.
