10 ways black Republicans don't get respect from whites or blacks

AfricanAmericanPoliticalPundit's picture

It don't make a difference how many billboards the paper tiger National Black Republican Association puts up saying MLK was a Republican. Black Republicans are getting very little respect from black folks or white folks. There are many reasons why.  Including the Republican National Party acting like the White Citizens Council towards black participation, even at the lastest 2008 Republican convention. Here are just 10 of the most current ways black Republicans don't get respect from blacks or whites.

1. Among the party's 2,380 delegates gathered in St. Paul in 2008 only 36 were African Americans and very few other visible minorities were to be found on the convention floor. We see how the Republicans treat you.

2. That number marks a 78 percent decline from 2004, the lowest representation in 40 years and a huge deficit when compared to the 1,079 delegates at last week's Democratic National Convention. You get no respect.

Young Republicans Tackle Age and Race

Future Majority's picture

These are two of my new friends. Princella and Richard, who, despite their republicanism are remarkable young leaders. Wednesday, I met with many of the Young Republicans in the party who can't help but notice that the stereotypes of old, white, men are more valid than they would like.

Leaders from the popular youth blog HipHopRepublican.com sat down with me to talk about opportunities that their party could harness if they were only willing to do the kind of outreach that Democratic Presidential Candidate Barack Obama's campaign does.

The young people all have ambitions to achieve goals or run for office, but they are fighting an uphill battle in a tough establishment world. Its the one thing that we as young democrats share with them. Their optimism reigns supreme, however, and they push mountains in efforts to move their party to something a little more mainstream or at the very least reflective of the 21st Century.

No laughing matter

Blue Jersey's picture
The Star-Ledger tells us today that Governor Corzine is being criticized by Democrats for being too tough on corruption:
"I've already been criticized by my party for how aggressive our Attorney General's Office has been," said Corzine in an exclusive interview at the end of last week's Democratic National Convention in Denver.

"But I want to give the people of New Jersey the greatest possible assurance about that. I'm not done yet. You'll see in the next few months we'll do dramatically more."

Yeah, that's been our criticism.  Corzine has been too tough.  Like publicly praising former Deputy Chief of Staff Javier Inclan immediately after Inclan testified in open court that he had assisted Guttenberg Mayor David della Donna commit numerous felonies.  Yeah, wow, that was SO tough.  Then there was his public praise for Joe Ferriero and his defense of Ferriero's participation in the Convention in Denver.  Oh, my God - THAT was SO TOUGH that I thought Ferriero was going to attend yet another party!

Exactly what reality is it in which our Governor exists?  It sure isn't the one where I live.

But there is the problem that no one seems to notice when Ann Milgram actually does take on corruption.
