Privatized Water Profits the Real Goal of Pickens' Wind Energy Plan?

Democracy for New Mexico's picture

T_boone_pickensT. Boone Pickens -- who funded much of the swiftboating of Kerry in 2004 -- was at the Albuquerque Convention Center today talking about his energy plan, again. But as the plan attracts more scrutiny, Pickens' true motivations for pushing it are being questioned by some. According to an article in the Local Energy News:

Obama On Lipstick Controversy: Attacks Media, Says "Enough Is Enough"

On the trail in Virginia just now, Obama answered the McCain "lipstick" attack, refusing to engage the central phony charge and using it to cast McCain as unwilling to discuss serious issues.

Obama also directly attacked the news media for turning the "controversy" into a major story. It's worth quoting his response at length:

Some of you may have -- I'm assuming you guys have heard this, watching the news. I'm talking about John McCain's economic politics, I say, "This is more of the same, you can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig."

And suddenly they say, "Oh, you must be talking about the governor of Alaska."

[Laughter from audience]

See it would be funny, it would be funny except -- of course the news media all decided that that was the lead story yesterday. They'd much rather have the story -- this is the McCain campaign -- would much rather have the story about phony and foolish diversions than about the future.

Fact-Check On Republican V.P. Nominee Sarah Palin's Speech

Daily Kingfish's picture
I watched last night's speech from the presumptive Republican Vice Presidential nominee, Sarah Palin. Before I get into the fact check, I want to say that Mrs. Palin is one of the most under-qualified members of a major party ticket in recent memory. Serving as Governor for 18 MONTHS and Mayor for 6 years does NOT compare to TWENTY SIX years in the United States Senate. That's the comparison that needs to be made ... to Senator Biden, not Senator Obama. But you want to make that comparison - 8 years as a State Senator in Illinois and 3 years as a United States Senator. Oh, you mean she has executive experience? Let's take a look at her record:

Palin said that "Our opponents say, again and again, that drilling will not solve all of America's energy problems - as if we didn't know that already. But the fact that drilling won't solve every problem is no excuse to do nothing at all."

REALITY: She believes that we can drill our way out our energy crisis.

Asked by "Investor's Business Daily in JULY: "Some politicians and presidential candidates say we can't drill our way out of our energy problem and that drilling in ANWR will have no effect.

Will Colorado media correct factual inaccuracies in their DNC coverage?

Summary: Colorado media outlets published numerous falsehoods, provided misleading commentary, and uncritically parroted Republican talking points during the Democratic National Convention in Denver. Will media figures such as 630 KHOW-AM's Dan Caplis and KCNC CBS4's Raj Chohan correct their inaccuracies, as The Gazette of Colorado Springs did after Colorado Media Matters pointed out an error in one of its editorials?

Colorado Media Matters documented numerous falsehoods, misleading commentary, and uncritical repetition of Republican talking points during the local media's coverage of the Democratic National Convention, held August 25-28 in Denver. For example, as a guest columnist in the Rocky Mountain News and on his 630 KHOW-AM radio program, Dan Caplis smeared Sen. Barack Obama four days in a row by distorting his positions on abortion, energy issues, foreign policy, and funding for the armed forces.
