If You're Going to Protest in Denver...

in

during the DNC Convention at the end of this month, you’ll want to keep a few things in mind.

1) Everyone who wants to will be allowed to protest at the DNC...behind a fence.

2) The police will have plenty of pepper spray.

3) Despite the fact that price-gouging in that city is rampant because there aren’t enough hotel rooms in a 100-mile radius to accommodate everyone who wants to be there during the DNC Convention, there will be no camping in City Park.

"We could just get a lot of people just showing up to camp," she [Councilwoman Carla Madison] said. "People from out of state, if they found out that we were going to open up free camping in the park, would say, 'Hey, we can actually go to the DNC and stay for free. We don't have to pay $500 a night.' "

Because paying that much and more per night is so reasonable, councilwoman. Take a look at Denver Craigslist.

4) There is an approved, sanctioned, parade route that is currently the subject of a dispute between the ACLU and the city of Denver.

The American Civil Liberties Union, on behalf of protest groups, sued the city of Denver and the U.S. Secret Service, saying plans for a designated protest zone and parade route are intended to keep them from being seen and heard by all delegates and others attending the DNC, a violation of their free speech rights.

If a protester shouts a slogan in the street, but there’s no one else around to hear it, what sound does it make?

5) On the final night, at Invesco field, there will be a designated protest area

The protest zone at Invesco Field on the final night of the Democratic National Convention will be located in a VIP parking lot north of the stadium, and will have a clear view of Invesco, city officials said today.

The fenced-in area will be about 53,000 square feet in Lot J.

Protesters will be allowed to use bullhorns, and the city will provide a stage, amplification equipment, and at least two speakers that will be located outside the zone and pointing toward Invesco Field at Mile High.

You’ll be fenced in and you’ll get to aim two 5-watt speakers at Invesco field. Feel the power!

6) But you will not be allowed to carry a bucket of shit.

The council approved the ordinance 12-0 on Monday. It also bars protesters from possessing chains, locks or other materials they could use to create human barricades or cause other disruptions.

Members of Re-create 68, Unconventional Action and Tent State University say the ordinance is overkill because they have signed an agreement not to use excrement.

Consider this a public service announcement. Only approved disruptions with city permits will be allowed in Denver during convention week, at a safe distance (determined by police and Secret Service) from where Democratic Party delegates will be.

If you are going to protest during the DNC
